Middle School Championships Here We Come!

WOW!  The Lander trip was the day that never ended!  Your skiers did very well in those very trying times!  They skied very well as well!

This Saturday, February 13,  is the last race of the season.  Casper Mountain here we come! I don't see any major weather events to get in our way of getting there and back in good time. Watch for more info but we should expect to load at 7Am and be on the road by 7:30AM .  Race info has our start at NOON.  We will stop and let your kiddos get fast food in Casper before heading home.  We can expect to be home before 6PM! (Pray all goes as planned and we don't have to drive across the state to get home!)   Please prepare yourselves for the longer race if you do race! All on our team are welcome to go and compete.  We will not be signing up for the short race.  You all can ski the longer race easily.

Practice this week!  With early release of students on Friday.  Our practice schedule for our last week will be modified!

Monday/Tuesday:  Same thing as usual.  Bring your skis you plan on racing on.

Wednesday:  Practice for all.  We have 2 busses.  We will stop and get you if you usually practice on Thursday.   Take your equipment home if you are not going to the race.

Thursday:  Ski prep for those going to Casper.  At the shed.  Done by 5.  You are free to go home when you are done.

This has been a great, crazy, low snow ski season.  Please continue to ski.  See you next year either as a Scout or when you are skiing as a Plainsman!

 Week of February 6, 2021

We had a great home meet.  Thank you parents  for your help and skiers for your effort on the trails.

Now on to this week. Practices will be the same as usual.  Skiers choice for technique.

Friday we prep skis in town.  Again this is encouraged that you come.  Those that worked on skis had better performing equipment this past meet.

February 6, 2021  Beaver Creek (Lander)

This is a very long day.  Load the bus at 7:00AM and  home around 8:00PM.  Ski at Beaver Creek Nordic Area on South Pass.

Because it is such a long day, it is encouraged that all traveling to compete should ski the long race.  The Novice race is only a very short course easy course and should be only considered for a few on our team.

All skiers on the team are welcome to travel.

Parents please talk with  your skiers.  Are they willing to spend a day on a bus in order to race?  Are they willing to spend the entire time in mask.  We as coaches have had many conversations with skiers about masks.  We need to know that they will be worn as ACSD1 protocol says.

If you are planning on transporting your skier personally you need to contact Mrs. Burkhart (kburkhart@acsd1.org) She has paperwork for you to sign.

Please be watching for more in for this meet later in the week.

OPPORTUNITY FOR 8TH GRADERS

January 29, 2021

Special Olympics needs your help

12noon -3pm

We will be helping host a Special Olympic Winter Games.  Middle School Skiers will be setting up the course, timing and handing our awards.

Please talk to Coach Hamann if you think you might be able to help.  As of now this will be at a Park in Town.  We may have to move the venue to the ski trails.

A Note From Coach Hamann

With only 3 weeks of skiing to go and many kilometers of trails under our belts, our skiers are growing in their ability to Nordic Ski.  With this experience comes the joy of favorite trails and the ug of not so favorite trails.

It is our job as a coaching staff to push you a s skiers. To help you grow, to make you faster.  Sometimes this means drills and short intervals, sometimes it means going longer and pushing to be at the bus on time. sometimes it means trying a scary downhill or getting up that ugly up hill.  This is what Nordic Skiing is about.

Team members you are given 4 choices every day as to how and who you want to ski with.  We coaches understand  you have different energy levels every day.  Once you  have made your ski group choice for the day we expect you to ski with that group. The coach at that time has ultimate say so over what is going to be done  for that day. Remember is is our job to help you become a better skier. Your job is to be a team member.

With this said.  We expect skiers to behave like  LMS Scouts.. You represent yourself, your family and this sport at all times while on the trails, either at home or at away venues. Those that choose to throw fits, argue with other skiers and even argue with coaches will not be asked to travel.

The hidden part of being on any team is learning how to deal with life when it does not go your way.

January 18-22, 2021

We got good work done last week.  Some of us experienced skate skis for the first time, others got some really good distance under our belts!

This week is a short week for skiing.

Monday/Tuesday (18 &19) No school/No Practice

Wednesday/Thursday (20 &21) Classic skis please.  Be prepared to work hard.

Friday (22) Practice is optional but we are going to the ski trails!  I want to make sure we all have an opportunity to ski at least 2 times this week.  Home at 5:30.  We have 2 busses so the entire team is invited.  Skate if you want. We will check in skiers at the normal place and time. (3PMish)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our next attempt at a home meet will be January 30, 2021.  With snow conditions as they are I am hopeful we can get trails groomed and tracked.  Hopefully other teams will join us!  Please watch for a sign up for helping out!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Order forms for t-shirts were sent out via email last week.  If you did not get one and want to order please contact Coach Hamann. This order will be sent to the company Thursday after practice.

Team Tights are available thru Coach Hamann.

LMS or Coaches do not make money on these purchases.

Calling all 8th Graders! Friday, January 29, 2021 (Noon to 2:30) We have been asked to help with the Laramie Community Special Olympics.  We will be putting the course together, timing the events, cheering local Special Athletes and maybe jumping into relays if needed.  This is not an official LMS event but it is a way to give a little to our community.  Please see Coach Hamann if you are interested.

(If no  snow in town we will move this event to the Happy Jack Trails)

You will be done in time to wax your skis and get ready for the race on Saturday!

Sunday, January 10, 2021

We finally got to Happy Jack and skied last week.  Snow conditions are still minimal at best even with this new snow recently.  It makes my heart happy to see kids learning to ski, having fun and becoming racers!

This week January 11-15 looks like this:

Monday/Tuesday: CLASSIC SKI come ready to work hard.

Tuesday/Thursday:  SKATE DAY You saw that right! Time to break out the skate skis! If you have only one pair of skis or are still unsteady on skis, stay with your classic skis! This will be an easier technique day.

Friday: Practice is in town.  At Scout Field.  If snow we ski if not we run.  Come dressed out to work out.  Done at 5PM.

Thanks to all of you who skied in out time trial.  For results look herehttps://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=230741&live=1

Our next meet will he in Laramie on January 30, 2021.  We will need help and snow!

Remember to bring your skis to school the first day you practice.  If you plan on skating  this week pack those as well.  Remember to pack hats, gloves and snacks for practices.

Week 7 Can you believe it? This is our last week of  ski season. We travel to Lander (South Pass) for our last meet of the year this Saturd...
